Margins in Common is a photographic installation by Herberto Smith presented at Curlew Studio in Murwillumbah. The exhibition brings together work developed in Portugal with new images made in the Northern Rivers. It focuses on people living within conditions of care, migration, and social pressure across different places. Through portraiture and quiet observation, the work centres presence, dignity, and everyday life. The images do not explain or dramatise. They invite viewers to slow down, look closely, and spend time with each encounter. By connecting different geographies through shared conditions, the project reflects on how marginalisation can be visible or hidden, yet deeply felt.
