Wild and Still unites two accomplished Tweed Valley artists, Anne Smerdon and Katherine Carson. Their work spans birds, still life and landscape.
Smerdon brings a storyteller's eye to each subject, uncovering the individual personality and emotional life of the birds and objects she paints. Her intimate portrayals are built on deep knowledge of animal behaviour and psychology, shaped by years of training birds and working alongside wildlife rescuers and animal carers.
Carson's luminous, technically refined depictions of fauna and flora document the ever-changing Tweed Valley landscape. She has an exquisite sensitivity to light - capturing the fleeting gold of early morning and the hush of mist rolling over the valley - observations based on a dedicated practice of painting outdoors on location.
Side by side, Smerdon and Carson’s paintings offer two deeply personal yet beautifully complementary visions of the natural world we share.
